Designed by the prominent architect Ralph Walker, construction of the original building was completed in 1931 and it was subsequently expanded in 1963 (the Annex). The building was designed for and owned by one of the oldest banks in the United States, The Bank of New York, for more than 80 years.
Macklowe Properties purchased the building in September 2014, and will redevelop this New York landmark into a first-class multi-purpose building, including condominium apartments and retail shops. Completion is scheduled for 2019.
