The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is a top-tier private research institution. It is in the Pasadena area of Los Angeles County. What is now Throop University started out as a technical school in 1891. Today, Caltech is known all over the world for its groundbreaking research in engineering and the natural sciences. Caltech currently has more than 1,285 graduate students and about 948 undergraduate students enrolled in programs. About 3,900 faculty and staff work at Caltech.
