Yale, a private Ivy League research institution, may have its origins in an effort by colonial clergy to establish a local college in the 1640s. The Connecticut General Assembly granted a charter for the foundation of a Collegiate School in 1701. After receiving a sizable donation of books and materials from Welsh merchant Elihu Yale, the school was renamed Yale University. The fact that four Yale alums were willing to put their names to the Declaration of Independence demonstrates the university’s dedication to its declared mission of producing future leaders.

The QS World University Rankings 2022 placed Yale University at number fourteen due to the quality of its research, teaching, and welcoming campus culture. Not only is Yale ranked ninth in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2022, but also fourteenth in the CWTS Leiden Ranking for 2021. Yale, a private research university in the Ivy League, employs more than 4,800 teachers and researchers. Yale College has a student-to-faculty ratio of 6:1, and 73.4% of its classes have fewer than 20 pupils. This affords educators with a great deal of leeway and facilitates substantial pupil-teacher engagement. Therefore, students can finish their assignments by meeting with their teachers individually at prearranged times.
