More than 25,000 students are currently enrolled at The University of Western Australia, taking advantage of the more than 500 different academic programs that are available there. The University of Western Australia’s dedication to collaborating with the indigenous people of Western Australia led to the establishment of the Center for Aboriginal Programmes in 1988. This partnership between the university and the state’s indigenous population continues to this day (now the School of Indigenous Studies).

Since 2016, the Pro Vice Chancellor for Indigenous Education at UWA has served as the individual in charge of the Indigenous Portfolio at the university. This individual is also in charge of the School of Indigenous Studies.

The Whadjuk Noongar is acknowledged by the University of Western Australia as being the traditional owners and guardians of the land on which the Crawley campus was established. The Whadjuk Noongar people have continued to sustain their position as the spiritual and cultural protectors of their homeland by preserving and transmitting their distinctive ways of life, languages, beliefs, and bodies of knowledge.

UWA has been routinely listed as one of the top 100 universities in the world for the past nine years and a little over a decade. When it comes to institutions in Australia, the University of Western Australia (UWA) is almost always ranked within the top 100. The University of Western Australia is ranked #79 on the list of the finest universities in the world by US News and World Report 2021. Since the year 2020, when it was rated #86, it has dropped 17 positions to its current position. The Times Higher Education (THE) University Rankings will place the University of Western Australia (UWA) at position #139 in 2021, which is an improvement of eight places from its rating of #131 in 2020. UWA was ranked in the top ten by THE based on a variety of factors, including the number of international students, the ratio of male to female students, the faculty-to-student ratio, and the admissions standards.
