The public research university that is now called the University of Waterloo first opened its doors in 1957. In the early 1960s, the University of Waterloo was one of the first places in the world to give its first-year students access to the most advanced computer technology. The University of Waterloo offers more than 100 different bachelor’s degrees and 190 different master’s and doctoral programs. Also, the University’s academic programs are run by its six faculties and twelve faculty-based schools. This makes a total of 18 schools at the University.
