The New South Wales Institute of Technology was established in 1964, which is where the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) can trace its origins. On the 25th of January in 1988, the institute completed the purchase of the Sydney College of the Arts School of Design. The University of Technology, Sydney Act was the piece of law that made the change to the university’s name effective on January 26, 1988. Since it has been abbreviated to UTS. The current institution was formed on January 1, 1990, when the Kuring-Gai College of Advanced Education and the Institute of Technical and Adult Teacher Education merged with the University of Technology, Sydney, to become the current UTS. The public research university is currently associated with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning, and the Australian Technology Network (ATN).

The campus of the University of Technology may be found in a location that is conveniently close to the southern entrance to Sydney’s Central Business District.
