University of St Andrews
The University of St. Andrews was founded between 1410 and 1413, making it an early example of an institution of higher education in the Anglophone world. Founded in medieval times, it is Scotland’s oldest and most prestigious university. A papal bull issued in this matter formally established this university. Since it is a public institution, St. Andrews is governed by the Universities Act of 1858.
The university’s buildings, libraries, and student residences are dispersed throughout St. Andrews, which is located in the rural areas of Fife, Scotland. The University has numerous residence halls and apartments available on campus for faculty and students. There is a large library on campus that houses the university’s notable collection of books, weapons, photographs, and manuscripts. Many different fields of study are represented at St. Andrews, including archaeology, medicine, the arts, the sciences, business, philosophy, language, music, and creative writing, to name a few. The Erasmus Program provides opportunities for direct exchanges between the university and its counterparts in Europe.
The university has recently established student exchange partnerships with several institutions in Asia and Australia. There are more than 9,000 students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs at the University of St. Andrews. Famous scientists, mathematicians, philosophers, theologians, and politicians all work at the university. Applicants came from 183 different countries for 2019 entry.
Over 50,000 alums have connected through the University of St. Andrews. Benjamin Franklin and James Wilson, two of the United States‘ founding fathers, are just two of the many famous alumni of this university. John Napier, the founder of logarithms, is an alumnus, as are Rudyard Kipling, Bob Dylan, Louise Minchin, Hillary Clinton, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the former Prime Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, and Olympic gold medalists Chris Hoy and Catherine Elizabeth Middleton (Olympic gold medalist in cycling).

The University of St. Andrews is in the top three universities on both The Complete University Guide – University Ranking (UK) and The Guardian – University Rankings. The Complete University Guide has ranked the university third for 2018, 2020, and 2021. The Guardian has ranked the school number two for 2020 and 2021 and number three for 2017 through 2019.
The Comprehensive University Guide ranks universities based on how hard it is to get in, how happy students are, how good the research is, how much research is done, and how likely graduates are to get a job.
