The University of Calgary can be traced back to the Calgary campus of the University of Alberta. In 1957, the Alberta Provincial Government made a promise to Calgary University. As a result, the university’s name was later changed to the University of Alberta in Calgary (UAC). In April 1966, the University of Calgary broke away from the University of Alberta and became its own independent school. Before this time, it had been a part of the University of Alberta.
