Simon Fraser University (SFU), which has been around since 1965, is one of the best schools in all of Canada. It is a public university that does research and has campuses in Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver. A pioneer who found the western coast of British Columbia, Canada, is honored by the university. When SFU opened for business on September 9, 1965, it hired 2,500 people. The US has officially said that it is the first university in Canada.

SFU is part of a number of prestigious groups, such as Universities Canada, the International Association of Universities, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The university has grown to have three campuses, 30,000 undergraduate students, 5,700 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, over 160,000 alumni, and nearly 1,000 tenure-track staff. This has given it the reputation of being Canada’s most community-engaged academic institution. Twenty-one percent of undergraduates and 32 percent of graduate students are not from the United States.

SFU has grown over the years to become one of the best schools in the world. It has been named Canada’s best university by Maclean’s magazine every year since 2015, and it is on the Times Higher Education (THE) list of 100 world universities under 50. In just four years, SFU has moved up from 251-300 to 201-250 on the Times Higher Education list. In 2023, QS ranked SFU as the 13th best school in Canada, while THE ranked it as the 8th best.

Simon Fraser University is a public research university where students can take classes from many different departments and schools, such as the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Communication, Art, and Technology, the Beedie School of Business, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Environment, the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Applied Science. At SFU, you can take almost 300 classes and get 27 different kinds of certificates and diplomas.

The main campus of Simon Fraser University is called the Burnaby Campus. It is on top of Burnaby Mountain. It was made by Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey, two well-known Canadian architects. More than thirty academic buildings make up the Burnaby Campus, which is surrounded by UniverCity, a thriving, environmentally friendly neighborhood. You can meet new people and have fun while living on campus by taking part in the University’s many sports and leisure programs.

A number of well-known people went to this university. Tery Fox is the most famous person who went to this school. A young man with bone cancer who was 18 years old and had just finished a marathon across  to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, Carol Huynh, who won an Olympic gold medal, and Ed Hill, who is a stand-up comedian, all went to this university.

Simon Fraser University (SFU), which was founded in the 1960s and is in British Columbia, Canada, is a public research university. The main campus of SFU in Burnaby was planned by two well-known Canadian architects, Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey. They hoped that by inviting people from all over the world, they could get new ideas and help researchers in different fields. In its first year, the school had 2,500 students from all over the world. Now, it has more than 30,000 students from all over the world. The university has over 6,500 full-time faculty and staff and about 1,600,000 living alumni. This makes it one of the best places to learn and do research in the world. Plus, it’s the first Canadian school to join the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which is the best organization for college sports in the world. SFU is an important member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the International Association of Universities, and Universities Canada.

Rankings

In terms of its reputation around the world, Simon Fraser University spent all of 2018, 2019, and 2020 between 301 and 400 on the ARWU Shanghai Ranking. The Shanghai ranking doesn’t look at how well known a university is among academics or employers. Instead, it ranks schools based on how good their research is and how many Nobel Prizes their faculty members have won.

In the QS World University Rankings for 2021, the university is ranked 323rd, which is a drop from the previous year. Times Higher Education has put the school in the range of 251–300 for the academic years 2019–2022. When compared to QS’s focus on Academic Reputation (40%), Faculty/Student Ratio (20%), and Citations per Faculty (10%), Times Higher Education’s (30%) focus on Teaching, Research, and Citations is more balanced. The university’s ranking of 306 by US News & World Report, which is based on things like global research reputation, regional research reputation, and the number of publications cited (12.5% each), is a small drop from the previous year.
