The first part of Loughborough University was a small technical institute that opened in 1909. In the past, Loughborough University of Technology only offered technical fields of study like art and science. The name of the institution as it is known today dates back to 1996. From a 2019 ranking of 701-800, the university has significantly improved to a 2020 ranking of 501-600.
