Heidelberg University

The Heidelberg University was established in 1836 and is the oldest university in Germany. It is also an open research university. The Holy Roman Empire saw the founding of three universities before Heidelberg came into existence. In 1899, the school was converted into a coeducational institute. The Institution of Heidelberg is not just the oldest university in Germany but also one of the oldest universities in the globe that is still in operation. The University of Heidelberg, just like all of Germany’s other public universities, does not impose tuition fees on its students. In most cases, German is used as the medium of teaching; however, a sizeable number of graduate degrees are presented in both English and French, as well as in certain cases, German.

The university provides education in a total of twelve disciplines, including the following: behavioral and cultural studies, philosophy, modern languages, economics, and social sciences, biosciences, physics and astronomy, chemistry and earth sciences, math and computer science, theology, law, and two medical faculties. The academic calendar of the institution is divided into semesters, and German is the primary language used in the classroom. Additionally, the language of instruction for some of the most popular academic programs, including Economics, American Studies, International Health, and American Studies, is English. The institution has worked together on groundbreaking research with the German Cancer Research Center, the European Laboratory for Molecular Biology, and the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies.

The educational opportunities available at Heidelberg University include those leading to degrees at the doctorate, postgraduate, and undergraduate levels. At the moment, there are a total of 28,653 students registered at the institution in a variety of degree programs. 18.6% of the total number of students enrolled at the university are students from other countries or regions. Additionally, the student exchange program provides several opportunities for students to learn about and gain an understanding of a variety of educational programs. Under their tutelage, the students are provided with numerous opportunities to increase both their theoretical and practical knowledge by the professors. More than a third of the PhD students at the university are international, and the university confers approximately one thousand doctorates annually to its graduates.

There is one campus in Mannheim in addition to the three that are located in Heidelberg for this university. The new campus that was established in 1960 is known as Neuenheimer Feld. In addition to that, the German Cancer Research Center may be found here on the campus. In addition to it, there is a parking area that can be used by tourists, students, and staff members. The third location is called the Bergheim Campus, and it is where the economics, political science, and sociology departments are located. In addition to this, it has a contemporary library that has a collection of around 3.2 million books and is regarded as the finest library in all of Germany.
